Pont-Aven, cité des peintres

Originally there was a ford that crosses the river Aven and populations empreintèrent.
The Romans established a bridge for the communication channel network across Brittany. The town of Pont-Aven was created in 1790.
The port was an essential element in the development of the town and one of the most important ports of Cornwall for cabotage. The boats were carrying -from Brest to Saint-Jean-de-Luz wood, salt, granite ....
In 1864 an American painter Bacon discovered by chance Aven Bridge "is the most beautiful town I had seen so far, with his strange bridge over a rapid river that runs several picturesque water wheels, and goes to the sea. Then other artists will come to Pont-Aven, Paul Gauguin, Emile Bernard, Paul Sérusier ...
In addition to its art galleries, where we can cross the artists, Pont-Aven is world famous for its pancakes made since the seventeenth century by the then local bakers biscuit
